Connection notes
FRA (3h 10min — comfortable): Both legs are LH/UA Star Alliance. On arrival from DEN, clear Schengen passport control (you're entering EU here, not at CPH). Plenty of time for the Lufthansa Senator Lounge in Z gates — Polaris business class includes Star Alliance Gold-equivalent lounge access. Walk to the LH Senator Lounge in Z (the long-haul satellite). Shower, eat, sleep on a couch if you can — you'll arrive CPH at 1:55pm and want to push through to a normal bedtime.
MUC (1h 50min — tight but workable): Both flights are LH at T2. No terminal change. On arrival from CPH, you exit Schengen (passport control out of EU) and clear US security. Polaris business gets priority security lanes — use them. Walk briskly. MUC T2 is well-organized; gates can still be a 10-15 min walk apart. Do not linger in the lounge — go straight to the gate. If LH delays UA8956 arrival, request rebooking on a later UA flight before clearing security; once through US pre-screening you're committed.
If MUC connection breaks: Lufthansa is responsible for the missed connection. Same-day options: LH404 MUC→JFK (later) then onward. Or rebook MUC→FRA→DEN (ex-FRA evening UA flights). Take photos of the boarding pass + UA8956 actual arrival time before you leave the gate area — useful for compensation claims if things go sideways.
CPH airport → city
DSB train — direct from CPH airport to Hovedbanegården (Central Station), 13 min, ~36 DKK ($5). Trains every 10 min. Buy at the machine in the arrivals hall. This is the move.
Metro M2 — runs from the airport too, 15 min to Nørreport, then walk/M3 to Vesterbro. Slightly longer.
Cab — 250-350 DKK ($35-50), 20 min. Convenient with luggage if you're tired.
From Hovedbanegården to your Airbnb in Vesterbro — 8-12 min walk.
DEN positioning — Wed Jul 15
You decide last-minute whether you're coming from Kalispell or Austin. Both connect to DEN for UA182 at 3:55pm Wed.
From FCA: United/SkyWest typically operates 1-2 daily FCA→DEN. Morning departure ~9-10am arrives DEN ~11am-12pm. Plenty of buffer to UA182 at 3:55pm. Book separately on cash, ~$200-400.
From AUS: Multiple daily AUS→DEN on UA. Morning departure 8-10am arrives DEN ~10-11am. Same buffer logic. ~$150-300 cash.
Lock the positioning leg ~3-4 weeks out when you know which city you'll be in. Don't wait — fares climb in the last 2 weeks.
Either way, plan to be at the DEN UA gate by 2:30-3:00pm.
Polaris on the long-hauls
Outbound (DEN-FRA, 9.5 hr): Eat dinner in the Polaris lounge at DEN before boarding (B West concourse) — skip the in-flight meal so you can sleep faster. Polaris bedding + amenity kit included; bring an extra layer.
Return (MUC-DEN, 10.5 hr daytime westbound): This is the brutal one — leaves 4:10pm MUC, arrives 6:50pm DEN, you fly into the sun the whole way. Stay awake, eat normally, hydrate hard. Sleep at home that night, normal time.
Sleep strategy: Outbound, sleep ASAP after takeoff. Return, do not nap; push through to a normal Denver bedtime to reset.

Where to stay — Kødbyen / Vesterbro
Butcher's Lab sits at Staldgade 22, in Kødbyen. Target an Airbnb in the wedge between Hovedbanegården and Enghave Plads — quiet residential streets, 5–12 min walk to the box.
The box
Staldgade 22
→ Hovedbanegården
8–12 min walk
→ Tivoli
10–15 min walk
→ Islands Brygge
8 min bike
Airbnb micro-zones
Halmtorvet / Sønder Boulevard ★ best
5–8 min walk to the box. Sønder Boulevard is a long linear park where locals run and picnic — your morning run starts at your door. Target streets: Saxogade, the upper end of Istedgade past Enghave Plads, Sønder Boulevard itself, Skydebanegade.
Værnedamsvej / Frederiksberg edge
10–15 min walk. Quieter, more residential. Closest to Frederiksberg Have for runs and to Coffee Collective Godthåbsvej for work blocks.
Carlsberg Byen / Enghave
12–18 min walk. Newer, quieter, often better Airbnb value. Good if you want a kitchen with space to cook your own breakfasts and an easy run start at Frederiksberg Have.
Avoid
Lower Istedgade near central station — historically the red-light strip, fine to walk through during the day, not where you want your front door at midnight. Nørrebro is great but adds 15 min bike commute to the box — only worth it if you'll skip morning classes.
Search filters
Filter on Vesterbro — polygon: Hovedbanegården → Halmtorvet → Enghave Plads → Vesterbrogade.
Kitchen with full fridge + stove — important. You'll cook your own breakfasts (eggs + protein + sweet potatoes from Netto/Føtex) most days.
"Elevator" matters — Copenhagen apartments are 4–5 floor walkups by default.
Listings that include a cykel (bike) — free bike at the apartment changes the trip. Otherwise rent from Donkey Republic via app.
Listings with a desk + decent chair — you'll work from home some days.
July is peak. Lock in 6–8 weeks ahead minimum for inventory under ~$200/night.
Train, run, move — 2 hours daily
Run-club arc with the booked dates: Sat Jul 18 NBRO Longshot (the legend, but expect cliquey vibes — see realism callout below) · Sun Jul 19 NORSA from Orsa Coffee Vesterbro (warm neighborhood Sunday social) · Thu Jul 23 Mikkeller Running Club from Stefansgade (no-hierarchy crew, easier to actually meet people) · Fri Jul 24 NBRO Friday morning (close out the NBRO tour). Diversifying across communities raises your odds of actually connecting vs. betting it all on one cliquey crew.
CrossFit Butcher's Lab
Staldgade 22, Kødbyen. DM @butcherslab on Instagram or email a week ahead — drop-ins are standard. ~150–200 DKK per session. Programming is competitive-leaning: heavy strength + classic CrossFit metcons. Good fit for your hybrid base.
Plan: 2-3 classes (Mon Jul 20, Wed Jul 22, optional Fri Jul 24 if legs allow).
Morning classes (06:00 / 07:00 / 09:00) skew local; evening (16:30 / 17:30) is more international + chatty.
Bring lifters + jump rope. Everything else is on site.
NBRO Running — the legend, with caveats
Realism check (per multiple Copenhageners): NBRO is genuinely cliquey and hierarchical. Their stated rules: gear has to be earned (not for sale); promotion to "NBRO Regular" comes after ~1 year of contribution; you don't ask, you wait. Newcomers report it's hard to break in even after multiple appearances. Translation for a 9-day visitor: show up for the experience and the run quality, but don't expect deep social entry. The "post-run hang at Depanneur" can be friendlier when you're a fresh face vs. lurking the inner circle.
Free, open to anyone, English-friendly runs. All meet at Søpavillonen on the lakes. The runs themselves are the value — the social is hit-or-miss.
Sat Jul 18 — Longshot @ 09:00 — long social run (typically 18–25K). Pick the slow group. Plant the flag.
Thu Jul 23 — Little Friday @ 17:30 — multiple paces (4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00 per km), 6–14K. Skip this on Thu and do Mikkeller instead (see below) — you'll get more social return.
Fri Jul 24 — Friday morning @ 06:45 — 10–12K @ 4:45–5:00/km, single group. Faster runners. Show your range.
NBRO 101 / Rookie run is the last Monday of each month — your trip misses it (last Mon of July is Jul 27).
Safety footnote: Multiple commenters flag NBRO has no pace setters and tends to ignore traffic in groups. Not a problem for an experienced hybrid athlete; just stay aware.
Alternative run clubs — lower-friction, more welcoming
All confirmed by Copenhagen locals as more newcomer-friendly than NBRO. Mix-and-match into your week.
Mikkeller Running Club RunNo hierarchy
Stefansgade (Nørrebro) · Tue + Thu 18:00 · also First Saturday at War Pigs (Kødbyen) 11:00
Best alternative pick. Explicitly no hierarchy, multiple pace groups (6:00 → 4:15/km), drink-optional (made for sober). Daily training Mon-Sat. Stefansgade meeting point is a 15-min bike from Vesterbro. First Saturday at War Pigs is in your neighborhood — but Sat Jul 18 isn't first Saturday (that's Jul 4), so you miss that variant. Tue + Thu 18:00 is the play. Use Thu Jul 23 for this instead of NBRO.
NORSA RunNeighborhood
Orsa Coffee, Vesterbro · Sundays · IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Sunday morning run from Orsa Coffee in Vesterbro. Smaller, neighborhood-scale, social. Orsa is also a working-cafe option. Use this for Sun Jul 19 active recovery.
be.yond_socialrun RunBuilt for newcomers
IG: @be.yond_socialrun · Sundays in Amager · "chill chats"
Newer Sunday social runs in Amager, organized by Sandra — Copenhageners describe her as "totally awesome and inclusive," explicitly aimed at people new to the city. Backup option for Sun Jul 19 if NORSA doesn't suit. Worth a DM on IG before your trip to confirm Jul 19 timing.
Sparta RunStructured
Multiple training groups by pace + distance · morning groups have 30+ crowd
More traditional Danish athletics club — coached, paced, traffic-respecting. You'd be "brought up as a runner" in their phrasing. Repeatedly cited as much more open to new members than NBRO/MK. Email ahead to ask about drop-in for visitors. Worth a try if you want a totally different community vibe.
All Out CPH RunCommunity-emphasis
Copenhagen training community · check IG for schedule
Mentioned as a community-emphasis training group. Less info available than the others — worth searching before you fly.
Hybrid weekly template (your version, in Copenhagen)
Thu Jul 16 (arrival) — Sønder Boulevard walk, no real training
Sat Jul 25 (departure) — Sunrise Sønder Boulevard walk only; cab to airport 9:45am
Hyrox-relevant work: Butcher's Lab metcons cover the CrossFit-style intensity well. For the run-station-run pattern, build it into Tuesday: 1K run → 50 wall-balls → 1K run → 50 burpee broad jumps → 1K. They have the floor space.
Backup boxes
CrossFit Copenhagen — Østerbro side, ~25 min by bike. Larger, more class slots.
CrossFit Frederiksberg — 15 min by bike from Vesterbro.
SATS / Fitness World — drop-in chain gyms across the city if you just need iron.
Solo running routes
The Lakes (Søerne) loop — 6.5 km flat. Tempo + recovery use.
Sønder Boulevard out-and-back — 4–6 km, right outside your door.
Amager Fælled — wild green expanse, 8–14 km gravel loops. Best for backup Sunday recovery jog if NORSA doesn't pan out.
Refshaleøen + harbor bridges — bike or run across the harbor, finish at La Banchina.
Work — coworking, cafes, library
Copenhagen is one of Europe's better remote-work cities. Below are the best places for sustained focus (laptop + power + reliable wifi + actually-good coffee), ranked by how well they hold a 2–4 hour deep-work block.
Coworking — for hard work days
Republikken CoworkingVesterbro
Vesterbrogade 60 · day passes ~250 DKK · 10 min walk from your Airbnb
The right answer for a real work day. Day passes available, no membership needed. Good chairs, fast wifi, quiet zones, espresso bar. Walk over with your laptop.
Soho House Copenhagen MembersD'Angleterre area
If you're a member elsewhere, your card works here. 15 min walk.
If you have SH membership, this is the move — quiet workspace, decent food (skip the cocktails), pool deck during breaks. The CPH club is small but well-run.
Founders House CoworkingVesterbro
Day passes available · startup-y vibe · 12 min walk
Lighter alternative to Republikken. Good if you want to hear other people typing.
Cafes — for shorter focused blocks (2–3 hrs)
Coffee Collective Godthåbsvej CafeFrederiksberg
Largest CC location · plenty of seats · 15 min walk from Vesterbro
Probably the best coffee-shop work spot in the city. Big, calm, laptop-friendly culture, fast wifi. Pair with a 30-min walk to clear your head between sessions.
Andersen & Maillard CafeNørrebro
Bigger room than most CPH cafes · 20 min bike
Bakery + cafe with real workspace. Buy a coffee, post up. Pastries here are world-class but skip them most days — bring fruit.
Coffee Collective Bernikow CafeCity
Central, smaller, 15 min walk
Good for an hour or two between meetings. Don't try to do a 4-hour session here — too small.
Prolog Coffee Bar CafeKødbyen
In your neighborhood · tiny
Best espresso in Vesterbro but seating is limited. Good for a morning hour, not a workday.
Orsa Coffee CafeVesterbro
Vesterbro · NORSA Sunday run starts here
Small neighborhood cafe — also doubles as the meeting point for the NORSA Sunday run. Good for a 90-min session before or after a workout.
Free + beautiful (public spaces)
Royal Library — Black Diamond reading rooms FreeHarbor
Søren Kierkegaards Plads 1 · free public reading rooms · 15 min walk
Stunning architecture, harbor views, free wifi, total quiet. Bring your own coffee. Best place in the city for a 4-hour writing block.
Hovedbiblioteket (Main Library) FreeRådhuspladsen
Krystalgade 15 · free
Functional public library. Good wifi, power outlets, totally quiet. Less photogenic than the Black Diamond but more functional desks.
Suggested rhythm: 2 days at Republikken (Mon + Wed when you have CrossFit nearby). 2 days at Coffee Collective Godthåbsvej (Tue + Fri after morning runs). 1 day at the Black Diamond for a writing-heavy session. Work from your Airbnb on travel/recovery days. Adjust around runs.
Swim — recovery + social
Copenhagen harbor is genuinely clean. July water hovers 18–21°C — refreshing, not punishing. Great post-training cold exposure. Bring goggles + a quick-dry towel.
Islands Brygge Harbour Bath 8 min bike
The classic. Five pools, 5m diving platform, lifeguards in summer, big grass lawn. Most social spot — packed midday. Hit it before 10am or after 6pm. Best post-CrossFit cooldown.
La Banchina 20 min bike
Refshaleøen side. Tiny dock + sauna. The sauna is the move — sit, don't talk, talk if someone else does. Pair with Reffen for clean grilled food after.
CopenHot 25 min bike · Refshaleøen
Wood-fired hot tubs on the harbor + sauna. Book ahead. Pair with a long run morning for full muscle recovery.
Sandkaj Bathing Zone 25 min bike
Up in Nordhavn. Two 60m lap lanes, jumping platform, no lifeguards. Less crowded than Islands Brygge. Good for an actual workout swim.
Amager Strand 15 min metro
Actual sand beach with shallow lagoon. Less harbor, more "summer at the sea." Half-day option.
Sauna culture: La Banchina + CopenHot saunas are quietly conversational. People nod, sometimes talk. Solo entry is normal. Sober-friendly to the bone.
Eat — single-ingredient, protein-forward
Eating frame: One mega dinner reservation (Kadeau, book now). Otherwise: Nordic cooking is naturally root-vegetable + animal-protein heavy — your rules fit cleanly. Cook eggs + meat + sweet potatoes for breakfast at the Airbnb most days. Stock from Netto or Føtex on Day 1.
Mega dinner — book ahead
108 closure: 108 (and its café/bar The Corner at 108) closed permanently. Any recent reviews you see online refer to the former restaurant. Replaced as the top pick below.
Kadeau Copenhagen ★★ Michelin · Green StarChristianshavn★ Top pick
Wildersgade 10B · book 6–8 weeks out · target Tue Jul 21
The replacement for 108. Chef Nicolai Nørregaard builds the menu around Bornholm's produce — fermentation, smoking, pickling, foraging, larder. Whole-animal cooking philosophy. Both Michelin Stars retained since 2018, plus a Green Star (sustainability) since 2023. Famously accommodating to dietary requests. Solo bar seat at the open kitchen is the move. Tasting menu around 2,500 DKK (~$360); wine pairing optional. kadeau.dk · +45 33 25 22 23.
Jordnær ★★★ MichelinGentofte (suburb)Apex upgrade
Gentofte Hotel · Tue–Fri evenings only · ~25 min train from CPH city · awarded 3rd star in 2024
If you want to go full apex. Husband-wife team Eric Kragh Vildgaard and Tina Kragh Vildgaard, hyper-seasonal, ingredient-precision Nordic. Smaller kitchen, often more accommodating to dietary requests than larger operations. Trade-off: it's in Gentofte, ~25 min S-train from Hovedbanegården. Tue Jul 21 fits their open days perfectly. Tasting menu around 3,000 DKK (~$430). Use a concierge service like Alotea or TableElite if booking through their site is full — these trips are often what they unlock.
Highly accommodating, ingredient-focused tasting menu. Strong Plan B if Kadeau and Jordnær don't have Tue Jul 21 availability.
Restaurant Barr NordicChristianshavnVerify status
Strandgade 93 (former noma space) · in residence at noma through May 17, 2026
Currently doing a residency at noma's location until mid-May 2026. By July it should be back at the original Christianshavn space, but verify before you book. More casual than Kadeau/Jordnær — beer-bar attached but the food works clean. Order water, focus on the protein mains. Useful as a Plan C or as a "second dinner" if you want a less formal Nordic night.
Walk-in clean — your daily rotation
Slagterboderne 4 Butcher counterKødbyen★ Best fit

Pretty much made for you. Butcher shop with a small dining counter — meat + simple sides, single-ingredient cooking. You can literally see the protein come off the block. Walk-in lunch or early dinner.

Madklubben Steak SteakCityClean

Sustainable fish bowls. Build your own — fish + greens + roots, skip the dressings or ask for olive oil + lemon.
Apollo Kantine BistroCityUsually clean

Daily-changing menu — often fish or roast meat with vegetables. Lunch is easier solo than dinner. Ask about the cooking fat.
Sticks'n'Sushi SashimiMultipleSashimi only
Multiple locations · easy walk-in
Order sashimi sets, skip the rice and soy. Tamari is available if you ask. Convenient default when you need fast clean protein.
Reffen Street Food Market MarketRefshaleøenPick carefully

Hit the grilled-meat or grilled-fish stalls (Argentine asado stand, sustainable fish stand). Skip anything fried — the seed oil count is real here.
Torvehallerne MarketNørreportDIY clean
Indoor food market · counters
The DIY play. Fish at Fiskerikajen, smoked fish at Hallernes (skip the rye if you want strict), Coffee Collective for coffee. Build a plate.
War Pigs BBQKødbyenSelectively
In your neighborhood · communal tables · also Mikkeller Running Club First Saturday meeting point
Texas-style smoked meat — the brisket and ribs are clean protein. Skip the beans, skip the corn, skip the slaw. Mikkeller brewery attached but their soda water list is fine.
Treats — occasional, not daily
Hart Bageri BakeryTreat
Richard Hart sourdough. World-class. One croissant on a Saturday post-Longshot is fine; daily is not.
Mirabelle Bakery BakeryTreat
Cardamom rolls. Christian Puglisi project. Same logic — once across the trip, not a habit.
Grocery — for Airbnb breakfasts
Netto, Føtex, Irma are the chains. Hit one on Day 1 (Thu Jul 16 evening) and stock for the trip.
Eggs (æg)
Ground beef (hakket oksekød) or lamb (lammekød)
Sweet potato (sød kartoffel) — yes, they have them
Spinach, kale, Brussels sprouts
Berries — strawberries are peak in July
Smoked salmon, mackerel — Danish staples, clean
Skyr (high-protein Danish yogurt) — if Greek yogurt fits your rules, Skyr does
Olive oil, butter — for cooking. Avoid anything labeled "rapsolie" or "solsikkeolie" (rapeseed/sunflower).
Connect — sober solo, queer-friendly
Copenhagen is quietly one of Europe's most LGBTQ-comfortable cities. Pride is mid-August (misses), but the dates land in peak terrace season. The most reliable plays for actually meeting people — sober and solo — are welcoming run clubs (NORSA, Mikkeller, be.yond), CrossFit class regulars, and sauna culture.
Highest-leverage "make a friend" plays
Mikkeller Running Club Thursday from Stefansgade @ 18:00 — explicitly no-hierarchy crew with multiple pace groups. Drink-optional culture (made for sober). The post-run hang at War Pigs (in YOUR neighborhood) on First Saturdays is the legendary one — but you miss that. Thursday from Stefansgade is your shot. This is your single highest-leverage social event.
NORSA Sunday from Orsa Coffee in Vesterbro — neighborhood-scale Sunday social run. Smaller crew, you're a known face within one appearance. Pair with breakfast at Orsa after.
be.yond_socialrun Sundays in Amager — explicitly built for newcomers ("totally awesome and inclusive" per locals). DM Sandra on IG @be.yond_socialrun before your trip to confirm Jul 19 timing — she'll likely welcome you.
NBRO Saturday Longshot — go for the legend, don't expect deep social entry on day 3 of the trip. Hardcore runners, real cliques, but the post-run Depanneur hang is open.
CrossFit Butcher's Lab Mon + Wed regulars — same time slot two days running. People notice. Chat on the rower or during cool-down. Danish gym people are friendlier than Danish bar people.
Sauna at La Banchina or CopenHot — sober, conversational, slow. Solo entry is normal.
All of these work fine sober — value is the people, not the bar. Listed in order of "good to be in solo at 6pm with a soda water."
Oscar Bar & Café Bar / cafe
Regnbuepladsen 9 · daily 11am–2am · terrace on the rainbow square
Daytime cafe, evening cocktail bar. Rainbow Square terrace is the spot for sunny afternoon people-watching with a sparkling water. Sit out, read, absorb the scene.
Centralhjørnet Gay bar
Kattesundet 18 · one of Europe's oldest gay bars · summer terrace
Mixed crowd, super welcoming. Outdoor terrace works in early evening with a soda. Conversational, not loud.
Vela Gay Club Lesbian-leaning
Viktoriagade 2-4 · in your neighborhood
Smaller, more local, mixed crowd. Wednesday quiz nights are the soft entry — closest queer venue to your Airbnb.
Cosy Bar Late-night
Studiestræde 24 · open until 8am weekends
Skip on this trip. Late-night dance bar — high-alcohol context.
Apps + queer fitness
Out & About Copenhagen — LGBTQ sports group, often hosts running and bouldering meets. IG: @outaboutcopenhagen. Message them now — you're an out-of-town runner training for Hyrox, ask about anything during Jul 16-25.
Pan Idræt — Copenhagen's queer sports umbrella; volleyball, swimming, badminton groups year-round.
Grindr heavily used. Hornet for events. Sniffies + Scruff have presence.
Meetup.com — search "Copenhagen LGBTQ" or "Copenhagen queer." Better than Facebook for English-friendly.
Events — what's actually on Jul 16–25
You miss the headliners. Copenhagen Jazz Festival ends Jul 12. Roskilde and Distortion are earlier. Pride is mid-August. ÅBEN Festival on Refshaleøen is Jul 30–Aug 1 (just past your return). The shoulder week you're landing in is the quieter side of summer — but the city is in full terrace mode.
